Privacy and Archive Policies
Web Authoring is necessarily a public activity. Once you put a page on the web, it is available to anyone on the Internet. At the same time, Federal FERPA guidelines dictate that as a student in a public University, you have the right to control access to personal information such as what courses you are enrolled in.
In this class, I must see your work on the web to evaluate
it properly. You do not, however, have to put any information
on your websites that discloses your identity such as your
name or your email address unless you choose to do so. The
point of FERPA is that it is your information, and you get
to decided how it is used.
If you have any concerns about disclosing personal information on the web, please discuss those concerns with me, and we will make whatever accommodations are needed.
Student Archives
As you have no doubt discovered, this site contains archives of student work that date back to 1994. Situating student work in the context of past work is an important part of my pedagogy. This archive will continue in some form as long as I am teaching at Illinois State. You may elect to include your work as part of this archive, though your access to that work may be limited after the semester is over.
The fact that your work is archived on this site does not in any way abridge your ownership or control of that material. You may, at any time after the semester, contact me (kalmbach@ilstu.edu or 309 438-7648) and I will promptly remove your material or any part of that material from the archive. |
