The Master's in English allows students to concentrate in any one of a number of specializations areas, including  TESOL.  Students who wish to write a Master's thesis are encouraged to do so.  Thesis hours count as four hours of course work. 

The following courses are available on the graduate level:

  • English 341 Introduction to Descriptive Linguistics
  • English 343 Cross Cultural Aspects in TESOL
  • English 344 TESOL: THeoretical Foundations
  • English 345 TESOL: Methods and Material
  • English 346 Assessment for Testing ESL
  • English 394 TESOL Practicum

Degree requirements for the Master's in English (emphasis in TESOL)

  • English 401 Introduction to Graduate Study
  • English 402 Introduction to the Composing Process (required for students teaching composition)
  • English 341 Introduction to Descriptive Linguistics
  • One Literature Course
  • One Course emphasizing pedagogy
  • 4 TESOL courses
  • At least two elective courses
