The Master's in English allows students to concentrate in any one of a number of specializations areas, including  English Studies.  Students who wish to write a Master's thesis are encouraged to do so.  Thesis hours count as four hours of course work. 

Degree Requirements for the Master's in English (emphasis in English Studies)

  • English 401 Introduction to Graduate Studies
  • English 402 Introduction to the Composing Process (required for students teaching composition)
  • One Literature course
  • One Linguistics or TESOL course
  • One course emphasizing pedagogy
  • Six or Seven courses, distributed in at least two areas of English Studies (literature, composiiton studies, linguistic, etc.)
