Comprehensive Exam InformationMaster’s ExamsThe master's comprehensive exam is given each semester. Generally, it is held on a Saturday in October, March and June at 9:00 a.m. Your synthesis statement, signed by your advisor, is due to the graduate director the last school day of the month preceding the exam. Ph.D. ExamsThe Ph.D. comprehensive exams are given thoughout the year. Once a Ph.D. student has completed and turned in all three synthesis (English Studies, Pedagogy, Specialization) statements signed by his or her examining committee, the exams can be scheduled. No part can be taken before all three synthesis (English Studies, Pedagogy, Specialization) statements are submitted. See the Graduate Handbook for more Information:
