Advising Resources for English Majors and Minors
This page is for students currently attending Illinois State University. English majors, minors, a student wanting to declare an English major or minor, or students interested in taking English courses will find information here.
English Major / Minor
The major in English currently has three sequences: English Studies, English Education, and Publishing Studies. All sequences in English require a Bachelors of Arts degree. This degree requires successful completion of FOR 115 or the equivalent.
Advising handouts listing the degree requirements for each sequence are included here. Four year plans of study (for native students) and transfer plans of study (for transfer students) are also here. These are suggested plans of study and should be followed in consultation with an English Department Academic Advisor.
The English Department offers four minors: English, English Education, Writing, and TESOL (Teaching English To Speakers of Other Languages). The Advising handouts for minors may also be found here. There is a four year suggested plan for students who major in English and minor in Writing. The sequencing for the TESOL minor may found on the minor advising sheet.
English majors and minors are strongly encouraged to join the English Studies listserv.
You can find more information at the English Department's Advisor's
blog.
