Minor in English Education
The minor in English Education requires 24 hours
of English courses, exclusive of English 101. A GPA of 2.50 cumulative and 2.75
in all English courses taken at Illinois State University is required
for this minor.
Course Requirements:
- ENG 100: Introduction to English Studies, with a C or better;
- 3 hours selected from ENG 283 Rhetorical Theory and Applications, ENG 284 Poetry, ENG 285 Drama, and ENG 286 Prose;
- ENG 243 Traditional and Non-Traditional Grammars;
- 3 hours in composition selected from ENG 246 Advanced Exposition, ENG 291 Undergraduate Teaching Assistantship, and ENG 297 The Teaching of Writing;
- At least 6 of the remaining 12 hours must be completed at the 200- through 300-level courses;
- To meet state requirements, a course in American literature, British literature, and dramatics is strongly recommended.
- Please note that these requirements are for the 2003-2004 catalog. Students under catalogs prior to 1996-1997 should check with the Department for those requirements.
