Minor in Writing
The minor in Writing is a 24 hours of English courses. Courses taken for the Writing Minor may not count for the English Major.
Course Requirements
- 6 hours selected from ENG 246 Advanced Exposition, ENG 247 Creative Writing, and ENG 249 Technical and Professional Writing.
- 6 hours selected from one of the following areas:
- Creative Writing: ENG 347.01 Advanced Creative Writing: Poetry, ENG 347.02
Advanced Creative Writing: Prose, 348 Playwriting;
- Rhetoric and Composition: ENG 145 Language and Composition II, ENG 243 Traditional and Non-traditional Grammars, ENG 244 Applied Grammar and Usage for Writers, ENG 248 Legal Writing; ENG 283 Rhetorical Theory and Applications, ENG
391 Survey of Classical Rhetoric, ENG 392 Modern Theories of Rhetoric.
- Technical Writing: ENG 349 Technical Writing II, ENG 350 Visible Rhetoric, ENG 351 Hypertext, ENG 353 Technical Editing.
- 9 hours of electives in Writing. May include any of the above courses, ENG 398 Professional Practice, and up to six hours in writing courses from other departments: Communication 165, 166, 265, 268, 269, 321, 385.
- ENG 396: The Writing Seminar

are for the 2003-2004 catalog. Students under catalogs prior to 1996-1997 should
