Writing a TV Script:

Today we are going to do a fun activity to learn about the effect an audience has on any given piece of writing. This lesson will teach us to always keep the potential reader in mind as we write. This is very important as you begin to draft this unit paper.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Below you will find the scenario we will be working with today:

A man is jogging in the park with his dog, Citrine. They have been running almost two miles when they encounter a women sitting on a bench besides a garden. Her head is covered with a blue silk scarf and she is wearing sunglasses. It is obvious she has been crying.

1) Who is the man?
2) Who is the woman?
3) Why has the women been crying?
4) What part does Citrine play?
5) What happens next?

Each group will expand this scenario into a TV show idea. You will be writing for one of the following TV shows: The X Files, NBC Nightly News, The Simpsons, Sienfield, or Sesame Street. Think about the audience that would be watching the show, the style of writing that would be appropriate, and how to answer the questions in such a way that appeals to the audience of the show. Each group will pitch their plot to the class. You can have one group member read the plot or your group can act it out!
