Portfolio Requirements

Students' grades in English 101 depend on sucessful completion of all parts of the required portfolio for the course. (See portfolio grading standards.)

These parts include:

  • Five completed papers and drafts
  • All questions/responses to and from peer group readers
  • All revision suggestions and their use
  • All analytical writings for each paper
  • The Baseline Writing Assessment essay and revision plan
(Your instructor may collect this seperately from the portfolio)
  • An analytical essay and its revisions
  • A signed Portfolio Submission Form

The portfolio is an important document and accounts for the bulk of students' final course grades. However, the advisory grades given for each paper (approximately every two weeks) must be satisfactory for the portfolio grade to count. Students must complete all the work for the course in a timely fashion if they expect to do well. Unexcused late work constitues a failure to meet these requirements.

Advisory grades are advisory and are only an indication of how well the instructor thinks a student will do on the final portfolio based on the work completed for each individual paper. The final course grade is based on the portolfio and is not an average of the advisory grades. The portfolio is graded as a complete document according to the English 101 grading standards, and the advisory grades, provided they are satisfactory, are not calculated into the final course grade in any way.
