Some Select Comments About Globalization IdeasMy efforts to include globalization/international issues were quite simple. First, I required one unit to be written to an international audience. Second, I required one unit to be about a topic in international business or doing business internationally. In my class, we focus on globalization issues in Unit 4 called “Addressing an International Audience.” This unit follows the third unit called “Addressing a Local Audience” (see my assignment description in Favorite Assignment section). For this unit, students take the local issue topic they chose in unit 3, and then tailor their report to meet the needs of an International (non-native English speaking) audience. The students must first research the communication needs of their new International audience, draft a report to their boss/supervisor explaining what they have learned about the needs of this audience as well as how they have tailored their report to this audience, and then actually do the work of addressing this audience’s needs in their report by revising it/tailoring it (and in some cases, reformatting and restructuring it). This gives students an opportunity to learn about issues associated with communicating with an International audience, including issues of localization and internationalization. |
