Information About Audience (Document) Forum
Every document has a forum---a place where members of the intended audience are likely to encounter that specific document.
- For example, certain documents like travel brochures featuring local features and events are found in hotel/motel lobbies, especially those hotels/motels without concierge services.
- In the above case, the hotel/motel lobby is the audience/document forum---the place where the document and its audience are most likely to meet
In writing courses, journals and magazines are often presented as audience/document forums for the articles and essays they contain. A cogent reason for this is because journals and magazines are targeted for specific audiences, just study the differences between the ads in Maxim and the ads in Good Housekeeping.
An audience/document forum can be physical (like the hotel lobby or the mailbox on your house) or virtual (like websites on the internet). Hence, the important factor to consider when selecting an audience/document forum for your texts is:
- "Will my text meet its intended audience in this forum?"
