Information About Writing Good Revision Questions

Anyone can write a revision question, BUT that does not mean that every revision question that will be written is a good revision question.

What's the big deal?

The big deal about writing a good revision question is that bad revision questions usually result in you getting very little useful information back about your writing.

Here are some tips to writing good revision questions:

  1. Ask about something specific in your paper. For example:
    • How is my opening?
    • Where am I failing to connect with my audience?
    • What would you suggest to improve my conclusion?
  2. Don't ask any question that can be answered by a simple "yes" or "no":
    • Did you like my _____?
    • Does my opening grab the reader's attention?
    • Would you name one thing I can do to improve my paper?
  3. Begin your question with an interrogative word, such as:
    • Who
    • What
    • When
    • Where
    • Why
    • How
