WPA Application Information
The Writing Program at Illinois State University invites interested doctoral
students in English Studies to apply for announced Writing Program Assistant
(PA) positions. When we have positions open, applications are due in the spring semester, on the date indicated when the positions are announced, and PAs begin their duties early in August.
Occasionally we have openings at other times of the year; these will be
announced, along with guidelines and deadlines for applications.
If interested, please provide the following

- Letter of Interest that articulates some or all of the following:
what you will bring to the position/program, what issues face the Department's
graduate instructors and how you will approach these issues as a Program Assistant, and what approaches you might take to mentoring and developing new teaching assistants in the program.
- One-page statement of your philosophy of teaching composition
- One-page statement on mentoring writing instructors
- Classroom observations of writing instructors
- A total of 3 letters of recommendation (from peers, faculty, students, or others)
- Sample of effective teaching (single project plan) with analysis
- Sample responses to student papers
- CV
