Applying for Proficiency in English 101
(formerly “Proficiency Examination”)
To receive proficiency credit for English 101, “Composition and Critical Inquiry,” students must submit a writing portfolio that meets all requirements laid out in current edition of the Course Guide for English 101.
Administrators in the ISU Writing Program will evaluate proficiency portfolios according to the “Portfolio Grading Standards” stated in the Course Guide. If the student is judged to have submitted an adequate (or better) portfolio, the student will be granted credit for Eng. 101.
It is our experience that students benefit from taking English 101, and that constructing this portfolio is easier when done in the context of taking the course than when done on one’s own.
